Anna Samson

Anna SamsonAnna Samson is a THRiVE research intern at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) in Mwanza, Tanzania. Before coming to NIMR, she worked as a volunteer at Sanson Heavy Equipments Company LTD as an administrator and office support. She also worked with Uhakika Kituo cha Ushauri Nasaha/People’s Health Initiatives (UKUN/PHI)—a non- governmental organization that deals with HIV/AIDS counseling, guidance and social support—where she was involved in capacity building and assessments, addressing challenges and gaps in HIV/AIDS service delivery, creating awareness in reducing stigma regarding the importance of medication and clinic visits, facilitating and conducting community home-based care services. She also conducted life skills-based comprehensive sexuality education for students.

As an intern at NIMR, Anna assists in the analysis and write-up of data from a study that was conducted to explore alcohol use among young people in Mwanza and Kilimanjaro regions in Tanzania. Her current analysis focuses on alcohol use among young women in the two regions. She is also working on various tasks in other research projects at NIMR Mwanza focusing on young women such as the cash transfer evaluation in Shinyanga Municipal Council.

Anna holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. And she plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Public Health and build her career in health research.
